Intro to Hot Stones

130 degree Fahrenheit water can burn human tissue within one minute, making hot stone burns the #1 injury claimed by clients to insurance companies. Despite this, the average operating temperature of a hot stone heating source is approximately 130 degrees. This course will present the most up to date protocols of hot stone massage including contraindications, indications, cleaning, benefits, set up, how to use stones (both clothed and draped) during massage therapy, and history. Not only will learning hot stone massage help you build your clientele and your list of services, it will extend the lifetime of your career by saving your hands from overuse.

At the end of this course you will know:

  • The purpose and benefits of using hot stones for practitioner and client

  • The most up to date protocols involving hot stones

  • Effects of heat on the body

  • Precautions, contraindications, and safety guidelines of hot stone massage

  • How to select and set up equipment and stones

  • How to obtain and manage proper stone temperatures

  • Techniques and stone management for optimal flow during the massage

  • 90 minute full body stone massage routine, both clothed and draped.
